Jussie Smollett Sentenced To 150 Days In Jail For Lying To Chicago Police

CNN reports Smollett, the former ‘Empire’ actor who faked a hate crime in January 2019, has been sentenced to 150 days in jail for lying to Chicago police.
Smollett also received 30 months of probation and a financial penalty of $25,000. As the judge announced his decision on March 10, Smollett lowered his facemask and pleaded his innocence to the court.
“Your honor, I respect you and I respect the jury, but I did not do this. And I am not suicidal. And if anything happens to me when I go in there, I did not do it to myself. And you must all know that.”
Cook Country Judge James Linn said Smollett’s attempted hoax was an “aggravating factor” in the case. “There’s a side of you that has this arrogance, and selfishness and narcissism that’s just disgraceful. You’re not a victim of a racial hate crime, you’re not a victim of a homophobic hate crime. You’re just a charlatan pretending to be a victim of a hate crime, and that’s shameful”.
